iMultiply – Case Study

Advancing the team's personal and professional development, to drive personal and business growth and openness.

Background

iMultiply is a recruitment consultancy founded in 2012, focused on the finance and accountancy sector.

However, the business is quite different to most other recruitment firms – as it places emphasis on customer satisfaction more than ‘filling jobs’.  This focus is best demonstrated by the fact that employees don’t get paid commission purely on the jobs they fill – but based on the satisfaction feedback scores given by the client, the selected candidate AND unsuccessful candidates.

iMultiply and Future Proof Learning have known each other for a number of years, however this project was the first time the two had worked together.

As a business that really cares about its team, iMultiply was keen to do more professional development, ideally with the whole staff group together, and to offer some personal development for the individual staff members.  To that end, we developed a series of all-staff workshops and individual takeaway exercises that could be undertaken over the period of around six months.

Often in recruitment it is easy to focus (or assume) that the end goal is simply to fill a job role. So, in light of the iMultiply ethos, the business was keen to look deeper and explore the area of ‘individual purpose’ as part of the training.

Challenges

“For most people, purpose is a tremendously powerful source of motivation.”

Angela Duckworth, Professor of Psychology at the University of Pennsylvania, Author of Grit

What We Did

One of the workshops we ran for the entire iMultiply team was around this topic of ‘purpose’, and also designed some exercises around building self-confidence.We also undertook sessions on productivity, influencing, memory and overcoming distraction.

The sessions were specifically designed to be participative as we find that welcome a range of perspectives always makes these sessions richer. As we dug deeper into purpose, we explored the concept of ‘grit’, and how a Job is different to a Career and different to a Calling.  We also introduced Ikigai, which is the Japanese concept of reason for being, and provided several takeaway exercises for personal reflection.

We share with iMultiply a real desire to ensure that the impact of our work goes beyond just the workshops themselves and to equip the participants with tools to support their ongoing development. With this in mind, we designed a series of interactive exercises and takeaway materials focused on creating good habits (and breaking less helpful ones), building self-confidence and developing our understanding of others.

Benefits Delivered

The feedback we received from the iMultiply team and senior management was fantastic, specifically mentioning Sunna Kristín Gissurardóttir and David Maltman for leading the day.

The team were enthusiastic about the mixture of professional development which supports the business, and the focus on their individual personal development. We have since, in partnership with iMultiply, designed another series of workshops to support the team, again built around the balance of personal and professional development.

Feedback

I would highly recommend Future Proof Learning for any L&D sessions you are thinking of running for your team.

It was an interesting session packed with resources and engaging discussions. A big thank you to Sunna Kristín Gissurardóttir and David Maltman for leading the day.

Investing in personal and professional development is key to creating an environment of growth and openness. Can’t wait to see all the ways the team acts on what they learnt.
